About ABL Sports Leagues

Based in New Jersey, The ABL (American Ballplayers League) is a fast-growing recreational and competitive Softball & Basketball league for adults and young professionals in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, Union, Monmouth & Ocean counties. With over 10,000 participants since 2012, The ABL organizes exciting slow-pitch softball and men's basketball leagues for adults 18 & over.

When your team joins an ABL League, you’ll enjoy the many benefits of a well-organized sports organization. Our state-of-the-art website features team stats, news stories, league standings, schedules, photos and much more. We even have a free league app you can download that makes it super easy to track your team schedule and stats. Just search for 'SportsEngine' in the App Store, download the app, log in and follow your team - it's that easy!

The "ABL" Story

The ABL was created by league commissioner J. Ross in 2012 with one goal in mind: To give recreational and competitive athletes the ultimate softball league experience.

A lot of local leagues are more focused on the social aspect, but at the ABL we are all about The Game. We have high quality referees and umpires, and our divisions are more competitive than any other league in the area. Once the game is over, you can belly up to the local tavern and replay the high points.

We strive to create a league experience geared towards amateur athletes who want to "relive the glory days" and play in a league that puts a heavy emphasis on an organized schedule, team stats, standings, news and of course, the Playoffs. We honor all the division champions at our annual Awards Party in January, and give out trophies for Most Valuable Player, Manager of the Year and Outstanding Achievement.

Rest assured, when you play in the ABL, our mission is to provide you and your team with the most organized and exciting softball and basketball league experience.
