JERSEY CITY, NJ -- The only two undefeated teams (at the time), Hot Boys and Blue Chips, faced off at Hurley's Court in Jersey City.
Hot Boys set the tone from the tip-off, streaking to an 8-0 run in the first 1:30. With their strong defense and communication, they had an early 9-point lead. Blue Chips body language was more lax, not expecting such intensity so early in the game. They didn’t get rattled, they just looked for the next best play each possession and ended up with a 2-point lead.
Blue Chips looked to score in the paint almost every possession and Hot Boys were fouling way too much. The first half had multiple lead changes until Tanner Cecan caught fire!!! He shot 100% hitting four 3-pointers in a row to give his team a 9-point lead.
Blue Chips ended the half careless with the ball, to the tune of reckless passes and multiple turnovers, while Hot Boys ended it on a 17-4 run. Hot Boys with the lead at half 40-28 led by Ronald Prophete’s explosive 17 points. Ricky Hoffman led Blue Chips with 12 points.
The second half was nothing short of a blowout. Hot Boys had a 20-point lead in the first 4 minutes. A team effort for Hot Boys on offense and defense with the perfect passing, offensive rebounding and steals. Blue Chips were getting beat off the dribble, couldn’t keep up with the fast pace and missed too many costly layups.
Unfortunately for Blue Chips, but good for Hot Boys, Tanner remained hot from deep knocking down another 4 3-pointers. He finished the game with 26 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 rebound and 1 block. Ronald Prophete was right there with 25 points including the dunk of the night, 1 assist, 3 steals and 5 rebounds. Hot Boys beat Blue Chips 78-54. Ricky Hoffman finished with 17 points, 19 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block with Khaleeq Stafford adding 18 points, 1 assist, 1 steal and 6 rebounds.
