Jersey City, NJ - Hoop There It Is is certain to be one of the top teams this season, as they love to put on a show and tonight was no different. Indy 500 stepped on the court feeling very confident after last week’s win and were ready to battle. The first half was very competitive, the score stayed close with Hoop There It Is leading by no more than 7. Both teams communicated on every play and searched for the best shot selection. Hoop There It Is was missing 2 of their top players and had no substitutions, but that didn’t slow them down at all. Three players specifically were on fire including Gary Hettinger and Eric Adams of Hoop There It Is and Greg Giordeeno of Indy 500. Greg scored 12 points, Eric had 11 points and Gary added 12 points as Hoop There It Is led at halftime 30-23.
Tempo remained high to begin the second half and both teams were playing strong defense. Greg Giordeeno's hot streak continued, but he didn’t get much help at all from his teammates. Hoop There It Is started getting stops and executing plays on the other end to force the lead to 22. All 5 players on Hoop There It Is stepped up this half as the game turned into a mercy. They led by as many as 27, outscoring their opponent 46-20 and there was no chance of an Indy 500 comeback. Hoop There It Is won the game in a blowout 76-43.
Greg Giordeeno finished with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. For Hoop, Eric Adams totaled 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block and 1 assist, Gary Hettinger put up 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist and Paul Yukelis contributed a double-double 12 points (10 in 2nd half), 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
Jersey City, NJ -- The JC Tropics vs. Wolfpack ended up as the game of the night. The Trops were trying to bounce back from last week’s loss and the Pack were gearing up for their first game of the season. Let's dance.
The first half was all Wolfpack as they stepped on the court in their new wolf-themed uniforms. They rebounded, got second chance points and fed off each other well. JC Tropics however struggled early on, they missed numerous shots at the rim including layups, and ball movement was lacking. JC Tropic’s defense kept the game from getting too far out of reach. Wolfpack’s rhythm was solid on both ends of the floor and they went into halftime with a 7-point lead, 22-15 behind Anthony Lawrence’s 6 points. Brandon Renkart and Kirill P. also recorded 6 points each for JC Tropics.
The second half was more of a nail biter as JC tropics completely turned their game around. The entire team got involved, players were more aggressive and ball movement was the key. They totaled 11 assists in the second half versus 3 in the first. Even so, Wolfpack still held the lead. Wolfpack fought and hustled on every possession but began to look more tired than their opponent who played without any available substitutions.
JC Tropics were down by 5 with under 50 seconds in regulation. Wolfpack then missed 3 crucial free-throws in a row and JC Tropics made them pay. JC stormed ahead for the lead and stole the game for the 46-43 win. Players of the game were Brandon Renkart with 17 points (12 in the half) and Kirill P. who finished with 18 points (11 in the half), 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal and 1 assist. They scored 23 of the team’s 31 second half points.
Jersey City, NJ -- Hoop There It Is and the JC Tropics put on the most competitive game of the night. Both teams started the game with a high level of energy and effort.
JC Tropics were in control most of the first half, leading by as many as 5, but their downside was not taking care of the ball. Both teams had some sloppy possessions and careless passes, but bounced back. The game stayed close in score, and Hoop There It Is was able to take their first lead with 5 minutes to go. They looked to make the right play, communicated well and out rebounded. After multiple lead changes Hoop There It Is held a 27-24 lead at the break. JC Tropics Jesse Weeks led the team with 8 points and Hoop’s Drew Leatherman led all players with 12 points.
Hoop There It Is kept that same momentum going into the 2nd half, playing on fire on offense and defense. They forced multiple turnovers and made JC Tropics pay for it. In the first 3 minutes, Hoop had 3 steals to contribute to a 10-2 run to increase their lead by 14. JC Tropics lost their rhythm, stopped talking on both ends of the floor and put themselves in a double-digit hole.
Hoop There It Is was in the driver’s seat the entire 2nd half, but JC Tropics wouldn’t go away. What won the game for Hoop was moving the ball. They assisted on most of their made field goals and stole the win 63-53.
JC Tropic’s Jesse Weeks wrapped up with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block along with Brandon Ren kart adding 10 points. Hoop There It Is’ Drew Leatherman finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist, Ramone Webster added 14 points (four 3’s) and Mike Minion contributed 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
