BELMAR HOOPS NEWS - The Grenvilles bounced back in a big way after two defeats to top Love Shaq 47-40 in a hard-fought battle in Belmar Sunday evening.
A hot start led the way early on with buckets by Cody, Bobby, Jordan and Tyler. #20 Anthony T led the charge all evening with 14 points, including 9 from beyond the arc. Love Shaq kept it close throughout with Dan Effinger posting a strong 15 points. Love Shaq brought it within 4 in the final 2 minutes, however, the Grenvilles remained poised, sinking some clutch free throws to seal the victory.
Going forward, Love Shaq (2-4) has a challenge vs. 3rd place G14 Classified (5-1) and the Grenville squad (4-3) faces the high-flying Supersonics (6-1) in a battle of two playoff minded teams.
BELMAR, NJ -- The Washington Generals got a much needed win last night, defeating The Grenvilles 48-34 in the ABL Basketball League. Keith Farr led the team with 23 points.
The Generals are streaking, having won 3 of their last 4 games. With some steady play, they could find themselves earning a seed in the playoffs.
Right now, they hold a precarious position in 6th place in the standings. But the the 0-5 Bad News Ballerz looming as their next opponent, the Washington Generals are primed for a breakout.
LAKE COMO, NJ -- After a few early losses, Love Shaq (2-3) has strung together back-to-back victories in the ABL Hoops League. Greg Risicato has led the charge with some clutch scoring including 19 points in his last outing. Pete McGuinness remains consistent on the boards and has provided tenacious defense as well. Late free throw shooting from Dan Effenberger has also added a much-needed spark in the final moments. In last Thursday's match-up, Bunch O Bots displayed some superb long distance shooting, opening the game sizzling with a barrage of 3's.
As the season hits it's midpoint, the road ahead remains challenging for Love Shaq with match-ups vs The Grenvilles and co-leaders G14 Classified on the horizon. But as of this writing, Love Shaq is in the thick of the playoff hunt, as the top 6 teams will qualify.
