McSwiggans and Bad Intentions are able to get back in the win column.

Hoboken, NJ – Bad Intentions was able to get back into the win column this weekend in Game 1 of Monday night with their nice comeback victory against Jet.com.  Bad Intentions thought they were on the right track, taking a 5-2 lead into the third inning.  They did so with patience and taking advantage of miscues, with 3 of their 4 first inning walks coming around to score and two of those a result of an outfield error.  Despite the tough start, Jet.com showed their resilience.  They would outscore their opponent 7-0 in the very next inning to gain the 9-5 lead.  They also took advantage of a fielding error as the offense caught fire.  Jet.com saw a stretch of nine straight batters reach base safely (5 singles, 2 double, 1 walk, 1 reach on error), with the big hit coming from Frank Amabile’s 2 RBI double.  Major contributors to that streak were Audrey Weller and Delaney Nicol, who both had great games combining for 4 of 8 at the plate with a run scored and 2 RBI’s.  Weller also showed off her skills at first base with a number of great plays in the field.  After that point though, it was all Bad Intentions. They would make the necessary adjustments and shut down the Jet.com offense the rest of the way.  The offense, on the other hand, chipped away with one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth, tying the game at 9-9.  Jordan Diaz was a key cog in the comeback with his solo homerun in the fourth and his RBI single in the sixth.  Ray Tejeda blasted a solo homerun of his own in the fifth and Jessica Dolan had a productive RBI groundout in the sixth to round out the scoring.  The tie game took us to the seventh, where Bad Intentions again held serve in the top of the inning.  Needing just one run to steal the victory, Danny Benitez, who was already 2 for 2 on the night, took full advantage of an outfield error to make his way all the way to third with just one out.  After a walk, Danielle Schlein came to the plate and delivered for her team with the huge walk-off RBI single to left, scoring Benitez and completing the comeback by a score of 10-9.

A pair of close contests and a blowout sums up a pair of wins from Madd Hatter and a pair of losses for McSwiggans.

Hoboken, NJ – Sunday night saw a pair of double headers for league vets Madd Hatter and McSwiggans.  In game one of the night, Madd Hatter took on Bad Intentions in a closely contested match.  The story of this one was taking advantage of mistakes.  In a role reversal from last weekend, it was Bad Intentions who out-hit their opponent 13-6 but would come up short on the scoreboard (is there a trend here?).  In the top of the first, Madd Hatter had two reach base on error and both came around to score, one of which with the help of an RBI single off the bat of Mike Gogliormella.  Bad Intentions would answer right back to tie it up in the bottom of the frame on the back of a Ray Tejeda RBI single and a sac fly off the bat of Jordan Diaz.  Bad Intentions would hold their opponent scoreless over the next three innings and use that time to take a 3-2 lead on a Danny Benitez RBI single in the third.  Madd Hatter returned the favor by holding Bad Intentions scoreless in the fourth through sixth innings.  Their offense would take advantage of a few more miscues to steal the lead back.  Mike Lerro led off the fifth with a triple to deep center, scoring on a throwing error in the outfield.  Like Déjà vu, Chris Dunne smacked another triple to center, again scoring on a throwing error.  The lead was 4-3 heading into the seventh.  After a pair of errors that could have ended the inning, Maggie McKay came around to score an all-important insurance run for Madd Hatter, after her single earlier in the inning.  Bad Intentions would end the damage there and certainly made it interesting in the bottom of the inning.  Luis Cruz crushed a solo homerun to lead off the bottom of the seventh and cut the deficit to just one run.  Four batters later, Bad Intentions looked to be in business with the bases loaded and just one out.  However, the Madd Hatter defense stepped up to turn an inning-ending double play, securing the 5-3 victory despite not recording an earned run.
