MVP, Outstanding Achievement, Manager of the Year, Cy Young announced

BELMAR, NJ -- The 2018 Coed Softball 'Jersey Shore League' Awards party kicked off last night at the Anchor Tavern in Belmar, and several players walked away with some well-deserved hardware.

MVP honors were awarded to the Babe Ruth of the league, Mr. Dave Coville of Hot Behinds. Dave hit more home runs then the entire league combined, and accounted for more than half of his team's total runs scored throughout the season.

The Outstanding Achievement Award went to Riyan Flannelly of the Misfits. Riyan was the triple crown winner in all ladies categories - Hits, Runs and RBI's - and played a stellar left-center field.

Cy Young Award was given to the star pitcher of the Misfits, JT Yuschak. He was their 'on-the-field' general, pitched every inning in the spring and fall, and turned the most double-plays of any pitcher throughout the year.

Finally, the Manager of the Year award went to Mr. Joe Lombardi of Bada Bing. Joe had his team on time and ready to play competitively each and every week. His overall record as a manager was 17 wins and just 3 defeats.

Congratulations to all of our individual award recipients!

Our team championship trophies and shirts were also handed out to the top 2 teams in the league - congrats to BADA BING, our Spring Season Champions, and THE MISFITS, our Fall Season Champions!

Nine innings not enough

JERSEY SHORE CHAMPIONSHIP -- It was David vs Goliath or more like David vs The Misfits last Tuesday night at Bert Willis field when the Misfits looked to cap off another unbeaten season. The only thing standing in their way- Dave C and the Hot Behinds

The Hot Behinds have been the feel good story of the year. Steadily improving week by week. A powerful offense, solid pitching and a defense that can go get it. Not to mention, the most loyal fan base- one that turns out in all types of weather to cheer on their crew.

The Misfits are the perennial powerhouse built on aggressive base running, timely hitting and a defense that feeds off their on-field captain and pitcher, JT.

In a back and forth game that featured outstanding, bend but don’t break defense from both teams, it would take 11 innings to crown a champ.

Dave C (4-5, HR, 4RBI) wrapped up the Triple Crown with another monster game. Leading the league in average, homers and rbis, they have already started carving his name on the Most Outstanding Player trophy.  On this night, he would get help by multi hit games from Kate, KC, Yac, Tom and Tony G. But it was Dave’s go ahead big fly in the top of the 11th that got the crowd off their feet and sent a shock thru the Misfit faithful.

But like they have always displayed, it was the heart of a champion that kept the Misfits in the game. JT did not allow a walk all game and along with Carmine and Eric had 3 hits. Along with the 2 hits each from Kyle and Tommy proved to be too much for the Hot Behinds to counter.

It would be a 6-5 extra inning victory for the Misfits! Back to back to back Fall Championships ('16, '17, '18) have this crew approaching dynasty status. They will be the odds on favorites going into the 2019 spring season.

Can the Misfits continue their dominance? Will Bada Bing regroup and regain control of the division? Will the Hot Behinds take the final step? Can Bond St return to glory? Will one of the up and comers-YourMas, Clown Punchers, Brew Crew add the final missing piece to get them over the hump?

A lot of questions to be answered. It’s going to be an interesting off season on the hot stove as everyone continues to play catch up to the Misfits. Stay tuned for info on the ABL Awards Party!
