CW Express vs. Hoop There it Is

JERSEY CITY, NJ -- A matchup between the only two undefeated teams, Hoop There It Is and CW Express was certainly one to look forward to. One of these two teams would remain undefeated while the other went to the L column.

Neither team started off well, the first few minutes were sloppy, but then defense showed up. Hoop There It Is’ defense was tight and CW Express put pressure on every play as well. CW Express led by as many as 6 although throughout the half the score stayed relatively close with multiple ties and lead changes. Each team was evenly matched on offense, defense and showed good ball movement.

There’s no better way to end the half than a buzzer beater and Bill Dowd did just that for CW Express with a layup to even out the score at 25. However, JP Kernisan led the team with 11 points and for Hoop There It Is Drew Leatherman led with 12 points.

The second half was even more exciting as the energy and intensity rose to another level. The defense from both teams remained solid and Hoop There It Is started off strong on offense to stretch the lead, then went ice cold. This allowed CW Express to go on an 11-0 run and take their largest lead at 8 points.

Hoop There It Is, a team known for fighting in any situation until the clock runs out did the unthinkable. They went on a 19-2 run, shocking CW Express and taking the largest lead of the game at 11 points with only two minutes remaining. They ran circles around CW Express, who were uncoordinated. One of their leading scorers, Ean Egar, did not show up, he struggled the entire night. However, it ain’t over until it’s over.

Hoop There It Is got comfortable and CW Express went on a 7-0 run in one minute and now only down 4 with 47 seconds left. CW Express’ Jeremy Carr had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer and take it to overtime, but he missed the put back at the rim. Hoop There It Is held on for the thrilling 56-54 win.

Jeremy Carr finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 4 blocks, JP Kernisan added 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist and Bill Dowd finished with 13 points, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 rebounds. For Hoop There It Is’ Jordan Wejnert put up 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist and 1 block, Jarret Schreck added 10 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal, and Drew Leatherman finished with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist.
