2-point thriller

Jersey City – Scrappy SZN had a rough first half in their matchup with Hoop There It Is. After starting the game on an early 8-2 run, they went ice cold from the field, going the next 7 minutes without a made field goal attempt. Hoop There It Is then went on a run of their own to take the lead and control of the game. Jordan Wejnert led the charge and had a monster first half, including 3 steals in a row and nailing 3 straight buckets. He had 5 of the team's 12 steals in the half. Helping him out, particularly on the defensive end, was Paul Yakulis, who came up with 4 big blocks before the break.

Hoop There It Is capitalized on turnovers forced by their pressure defense that gave the Scrappy SZN offensive fits. If not for Vic Rosario and his 10 first half points, the deficit could have been much greater. Hoop There It Is rolled to an 18-3 run, and their largest lead of the half was 9. A frustrated Scrappy SZN team needed to regroup during the break and not let the game get out of hand, trailing by a score of 29-21. Wejnert led all players with 12 first half points.

The second half was enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, as Scrappy SZN fought their way back into the game. Hoop There It Is could not find an answer for Vic Rosario, and he took full advantage of his matchups. He was fouled nearly every time he caught the ball in the paint. Scrappy SZN also came up with five clutch 3-pointers from Aaron Gadsden (1), Antonio Burnett II (2), and Bryce Alves (2) to put the game within reach. Hoop There It Is, on the other hand, did not make one 3-point attempt.

The game got more competitive as the teams battled their way through the second half, and Scrappy SZN tied the game with approximately 10 minutes to go. They would then take their first lead since the opening minutes of the game, holding 1 a point advantage with just 2 minutes remaining. Both teams now feeling the pressure and rising to the occasion, there were multiple ties and lead changes as the clock ticked down.  The back-and-forth battle ended with a 54-52 Hoop There It Is win.

Scrappy SZN’s Vic Rosario finished with 17 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, 9 rebounds, and 1 block, with Antonio Burnett II adding 13 points, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 4 rebounds. For Hoop There It is, Jordan Wejnert finished the game with 20 points, 2 assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds with Gary Hettinger, who also played a great game, chipping in 13 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 rebounds, and 1 block.
