nWo just too strong

HURLEY'S COURT -- Last week, the nWo hoops squad got off to an unusually slow start against the Wolfpack, who took advantage and jumped to an early 6-point lead. nWo was cold from the field, but of course that didn’t last long, and before you could howl at the moon, the Wolfpack was in trouble.

However, once nWo picked up the pace of the game and started making the extra pass, it was lights out. They took the lead at the 9-minute mark in the first half and led by as many as 17. Wolfpack began to look winded on offense and couldn’t slow down nWo on defense. DeWitt Maxwell held Wolfpack on his back with 12 points in the first half. For nWo, Louis Williams Jr. put on a show with 18 points and Will Kales had 10 assists. nWo led 37-22.

In the second half, nWo did what they normally do: annihilate the opposition. They were laughing and having fun, while Wolfpack was sweating hard and struggling to score.

Wolfpack were down by as much as 30, before they found some answers. D. Wiggins hit two 3- pointers in a row followed by a 3 from DeWitt Maxwell and suddenly, the lead was down to 14 with 5 minutes left. nWo had a few careless turnovers but didn’t sweat it as they went right back up by 19. Wolfpack made a strong comeback effort, but it wasn’t enough against this powerful offensive team. nWo won the game 78-62.

DeWitt Maxwell finished with 23 points, 1 assist, 2 steals and 9 rebounds and Tait Pirkle added 13 points, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 rebound. For nWo, Louis Williams Jr. finished with 24 points, 1 assist, 6 rebounds and 1 block, Gabe Robinson added 13 points and Matik Jones contributed 14 points, 1 steal and 10 rebounds.
