Playoff Football is Back!!!

The season has come and gone, and the second season is about to begin. The stakes are high, and only one team will end up on top. Who will it be?

Today is the day!  Playoff football is back!  It’s been a fun season so far with two dominating teams siting in the one and two seeds, but the three and four seeds weren’t decided until the very last night.  Top seeded and defending champion 10th & Willow Wolverines take their undefeated season into game one against Past Our Prime, and the nightcap features the red hot No Fat Chix against Walk It Like I Talk It.

10th & Willow boasts the league best defense, giving up just under 11 points per game.  Their offense compliments that with their over 27 points per game average, and it’s pretty clear why this team just does not lose.  They finished second in the league in point differential, due to a late flurry by No Fat Chix, at +115.  Quarterback Isai Carrillo leads the charge as the league’s leader in completion percentage, touchdowns, and is tied for the lowest interceptions among starting quarterbacks.  Andrew Solomon finished 2nd in receptions and tied for 2nd in receiving touchdowns.  Dennis McInerney was good enough for 5th in receiving touchdowns and tied for 5th in receptions, while Ashley Furman ranked 4th in receptions.  On the defensive side of the ball, Travis King tied for the league lead in interceptions, while Carrillo and Tim Fougere tied for 4th and Eric Woodruff finished 2nd in sacks.  Captain Evan Rahey certainly has put together a complete roster here.  No team is without its flaws, but good luck finding them on this team.  These playoff opponents will have their hands full and then some.

10th & Willow’s semifinals opponent will be faced with a tough challenge, but they will certainly tell you that they are up for it.  Past Our Prime started the season hot but cooled off considerably with a tough back end of the schedule.  They stumbled their way into the playoffs, but will be looking to prove that they are just as dangerous as the rest. They certainly have the talent and manpower to do so and make some noise.  Quarterback TJ Baxter ranked 2nd in completion percentage while finishing in a tie for 4th in touchdowns and a tie for 1st for the lowest interception total among starting quarterbacks.  Peter Lariani tied for 5th in receptions and ranked 3rd in sacks.  James Hill and Terrence Whitley Jr. were among those tied for 4th in the league in interceptions.  Past Our Prime will attempt to regain that early season form and shock some people (but not themselves).  Yes, they never lack confidence.

In game two of the semifinals, No Fat Chix comes in as clearly the hottest team in the league.  Their only loss of the season came in overtime to the first place 10th & Willow Wolverines and have ended the season on a warpath in the hopes of a championship rematch.  They are a single point behind 10th & Willow in points surrendered on defense and have blown away the rest of the league on offense, scoring over 33 points per game.  The result is a league best +157 point differential, wow.  This was greatly supplemented by a pair of 42+ point blowouts to conclude the regular season.  Nothing like outscoring your opponents 88-0 in the two games leading up to the playoffs; I think they’re ready.  Quarterback Ryan Sheridan finished the season 4th in completion percentage, 2nd in touchdown passes, and tied for 4th lowest in interceptions thrown among starters.  Corey Hutchinson concluded the season in a tie for 1st in interceptions and a tie for 5th in receptions.  Ray Sheridan was the league leader in receiving touchdowns, Henry Vieluf tied for 4th in sacks, and Kyle Murphy, with a big final game, earned his way to a tie for 4th in interceptions.  These top two teams look to be on a collision course, look out.

No Fat Chix’ semifinal opponent will be league newcomers Walk It Like I Talk It, who finished the regular season on a two game winstreak of their own to secure their playoff spot.  They actually only lost one of their final four games, that loss being to their round one opponent.  Quarterback Qamar Sheikh ranked 3rd in the league in completion percentage and touchdowns.  Mahaz Khalifa finished atop the leaderboard in receptions and tied for 2nd in touchdown receptions, while Roman Khan lead the league in sacks and teammate Jeff Esquillo tied for 4th in the same category.  Walk It Like I Talk It will be looking to prove that they are serious contenders and are here to stay.  They certainly have the talent to do so, but will be faced with a tough battle right off the bat.

Congratulations to all of our teams for a fun and hard fought season.  We saw some wild finishes and it can’t help but make you look forward to what these playoff teams have in store for us.  Good luck the rest of the way in your chases for the Summer Season crown!
