Playoff Race Heating Up

JERSEY SHORE -- With every team in the Catfish Hunter division past the halfway point of their season, the playoff picture is starting to take form.

Two teams stand at the top with 5-1 records. Bada Bing and Langosta will square off next Tuesday night with sole possession of first place on the line.

After starting the season 4-0, including impressive wins over the Misfits (4-1) and Bond St (3-3), Bada Bing finally stubbed it’s toe when Make it a Double (3-3) shut them down 6-2. Bing bounced back with a solid 10-3 drubbing of the Backyard Brew Crew (2-3), who actually had the lead in this one before a nightmare inning led to disaster. The BYBC has shown potential, but they might not be ready yet to play with the big boys.

The bigger surprise this season has been the crew from Langosta. Their only loss this season was a hard fought 8-5 game with the Misfits. However it’s Langosta’s signature win that came this week that has people talking.

Tied going into the bottom of the 6th with the Hot Behinds (3-2), Langs' bats exploded for 11 hits and 10 runs in the inning to close it out early. It seemed like every time the Hot Behinds might grab the momentum, Player of the game Amanda (3-4, 4rbi) delivered the big hit for Langosta.

Make it a Double has won 3 of their last 4, including last weeks 5-4 victory over a scrappy Aaski Kickers (1-4) squad to pull their record up to .500. The look to get over the hump next week when they square off with the Asbury Slammers (0-5).

The Misfits are a half game back in the standings, but with the easiest strength of schedule the rest of the way in. Even though they haven’t completely clicked yet, anything less than 8-1 would be a surprise and a disappointment.

Bond st has a bit of bad luck this year. They have undoubtedly had the toughest schedule so far this season. After a good win against Make it a Double, 3 straight losses to the Hot Behinds, Bada Bing and the Misfits. They will look to build some momentum when they take on the Masters Batters (1-4) next week.

In a crazy season so far where Mother Nature is the MVP favorite, it’s really anyone’s ball game. The top 6 teams all have a legitimate shot at the title and this has the makings of an exciting pennant chase.
