Chubb Rallies back for the Dub

HURLEY'S COURT, JERSEY CITY, NJ -- It was a must-win game for Chubb just to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Hot Boys had been on fire all season, but Chubb wasn’t backing down.

After their first 3 failed possessions, Chubb went on to score 9 in a row, forcing a timeout. Hot Boys were taking ill-advised shots while Chubb displayed their best offensive performance all season. Chubb led by as many as 10 in the first half, but in the blink of an eye, Hot Boys came firing back to take the lead. Chubb couldn’t buy a bucket and allowed Hot Boys to go on a 17-2 run in the final 3 minutes. Hot Boys led 38-28 at halftime with Aaron Gadsden leading all players with 9 points.

Chubb did a complete turnaround in the second half, playing with an unusual intensity scoring 9 straight points. Hot Boys had zero aggressiveness and sloppy turnovers, yet still maintained a small lead.

Before you knew it, Chubb was within 1 with 1:30 remaining. The building went loud and crazy and Chubb then took a 3-point lead with 20 seconds left. The Hot Boys cost themselves the game with too many late turnovers. Chubb outscored them 32-21 and took the 60-59 win.

Hot Boys Aaron Gadsden finished with 17 points, 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 rebounds and Ronald Prophete added 16 points, 2 assists, 6 rebounds and 1 block. Chubb’s Drew Leatherman scored 16 points, 1 assist, 2 steals and 7 rebounds and Gene Cushman added 13 points, 1 assist, 2 steals and 5 rebounds.
