There were some great performances in the Round of Champions, but none stood out more than The Wolfpack’s Josh Heyer. He led the 4th seed to their second consecutive championship, this time over the 2 seed Alligators. Aggressive and clutch are two words that come to mind with Heyer’s game. He attacked the rim early and often, doing damage from the free throw line, and distributed the ball well to teammates. After a demoralizing sequence that saw his team go from up by 4 to down by 1 in the blink of an eye and little time remaining, Heyer showed he had nothing but ice in his veins and drained a go-ahead 2-point shot to take the lead back in regulation. This could have easily been the game deciding bucket, but Alligators just would not quit. Blowing a lead so late in a game, let alone a championship, can leave a team scrambling and on their heels. Heyer would have none of that, and stayed the same aggressive playmaker in overtime that led his team to the 47-45 victory in double overtime. This effort was not out of the ordinary for Heyer. He finished the season as The Wolfpack’s leader in scoring and assists (ties for 15th and 6th in the league respectively) and second on the team in steals (8th in the league). He was also 6th in rebounds and tied for 2nd in blocks for his championship team. It was an excellent performance to cap off a great season for the all-around talented player.
