Sunday gave us the much anticipated rubber match between Ball Don’t Lie and Goodfellas in the 2017 Spring Championship Game.  Ball Don’t Lie took game one in the season opener by a score of 52-41.  Goodfellas responded and squeaked by in game two by a score of 62-60 midway through the season.  However, there would be no doubt in this one.

            Goodfellas started off the season with that loss to who would later be their championship opponent, but they turned things around quickly.  They spun off 7 straight victories to finish the season, capped off by back to back triple digit performances.  They carried over this impressive output into the playoffs, taking down first round opponent Probably Hungover by a score of 80-41.

            Goodfellas took it to Ball Don’t Lie early and often in the championship game, doubling their opponent’s score and taking a 44-22 point lead into the half.  Ball Don’t Lie would find their rhythm in the second half, scoring 42 points, but Goodfellas never took their foot off the pedal.  They scorched their way to 51 in the second half and put their opponent away to capture their first league championship by a final score of 95-64.

            Goodfellas was led by their two stars, Kevin Johnson and Tymel Jackson.  Johnson led the team in scoring (28) and assists (6).  Jackson led the team in 3-point field goals (3), rebounds (8), and tied for the lead in steals (3).  He would also record the team’s only blocked shot.  In the loss, Vic Rosario of Ball Don’t Lie put up an impressive stat line himself, earning the double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds while adding 3 assists and a block.

            It was a hard fought season that culminated in a clash between the two best teams that our league has to offer.  Congratulations to both teams for their successes, and we would like to extend an extra congratulations to the newly crowned champions Goodfellas!  We look forward to seeing you both again for more postseason thrillers.
