BERT WILLIS FIELD, NEPTUNE CITY, NJ -- It was opening night in the ABL Coed Jersey Shore Summer League, and the rains were long gone. The evening's final matchup featured perennial powerhouse Make it a Double and a Talulas team that really hit its stride last season and played better than its record indicated.
Player of the Game Tom (1-3, RBI) kept the MIAD bats off balance all night with an array of arm angles and spins. He scattered 8 hits and 2 runs over the 7 innings.
3 of the 8 Make it a Double hits were courtesy of leadoff batter Sean Murphy (3-3, R, RBI). Christian (6IP, 8H, 4ER) pitched well enough to give his team a chance but the offense could just not get anything going.
Give Talulas credit, they made all the plays they needed to, including star first baseman Annie who channeled her inner Keith Hernandez. They also got a couple of clutch hits and walks and started their season out on a positive note. Talulas wins 4-2.
