Major Upsets in the Hoboken Shuffleboard League

Last night we saw first hand that records don't really matter in the world of shuffle, as number 1 and number 3 seeds, Cool Hand Luke and The EarthQUATES, respectively, lost to the 11th seed, Kansas City Shuffle and 13th seed Puck You Miss

The EarthQUATES were in prime position, winning Game 1 and ready to take a share of first place after Cool Hand Luke lost their first. But then it all came crumbling down as The EarthQUATES captain, Jeremy VonBlohn got outplayed by his opponent, Tony of Puck You Miss, by a tune of 11 pts to 3, leaving his Wife and teammate, Lisa, feeling deflated after putting up 15 pts against PYM's Steph

Cool Hand Luke took advantage and defeated their opponents with ease to a tune of 21-3, reclaiming their spot at the top of the standings. But game 1 resulted in a major upset, as KC Shuffle won 21-18. KCS Captain Steve Munson had this to say about the win:

"
My boy Kurt and I were just on fire the whole game. I didn't realize it was the 1st place team until afterwards. Too bad our girlfriends couldn't complete the sweep haha. "

In the earlier games, The Mighty Pucks, led by Kevin and Julie, leap frogged Zero Pucks Given in standing by beating them convincingly in both games. It was the kind of showing The Mighty Pucks needed to continue their fight for their 3rd Lord ShufflePuck Trophy.

Captain Julie of the Mighty Pucks recapped the night:

"
Kevin dominated on offense last night while I played the defensive game. We got off to a rocky start but we aren't going to dwell on it, wouldn't be the first time we started off a little soft.... According to Kevin we might not be the best team this season but anything can happen in the playoffs."

Zero Pucks Given led by Jay and Alex, Now 7-5 in standings and currently 6th, are hoping this is just a hiccup on their quest to the Playoffs and perhaps more. ZPG are going to have to play mistake free Puck the rest of the way out to secure a spot for the playoffs. Unfortunately, they have the buzzsaw that is Cool Hand Luke next on their docket. The Mighty Pucks who have only played 10 games thus far, play Teamo Supremo, a rookie squad that still remains a question mark at 4-4 in the standings, before taking on fellow rival The EarthQUATES the week after.

With four games remaining for each of the top 3 teams, it will be interesting to see who finishes the season on top. Cool Hand Luke plays Shuffle Me Timbers (currently 2nd in the standings, 10-2 Record) at the end of the season, and The EarthQUATES play The Mighty Pucks (Currently 5th in standings, 7-3). As the standings currently show, a 10-6 team will more than likely make the playoffs, but 11-5 will be a certainty.
