For Pitches and Hoes it was a tale of two different teams. The team in the first game and the team in the second.
On a cold and windy day at Sylvan Park Goodwood looked very confident in game 1 as they scored 6 runs in the 1st inning behind a slew of base hits and a triple from Tom Villacampa, which brought in 2. The tornado continued as Goodwood scored 7 more runs in the next 3 innings, while holding Pitches and Hoes to only 2 runs. The game ended in 4 innings due to the 12-run rule.
In the 2nd game Pitches and Hoes rallied scoring 11 runs in the 1st inning. Goodwood was not far behind, scoring 5 runs in the 1st inning and 5 runs in the next two innings to cut Pitches and Hoes lead by 1 run, 11-10.
Pitches and Hoes responded with 4 runs in the 3rd inning behind homers from Kato Rojas and Alex Lopez, putting them up 15-10. Goodwood came roaring back in the top of the 5th inning scoring 7 runs as Kevin Ross hit a three-run homer, to put his team up 19-16. Pitches and Hoes let out a collective sigh of relief when Lopez caught a deep ball in left field, finally ending the inning.
Pitches and Hoes relished the challenge set forth by Goodwood, scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning thanks to a three-run homerun by Alberto Mesones and 2 RBIs each by Mike P. and Rojas, taking back the lead, 24-19. They shut down Goodwood in the 6th inning with three straight groundball put outs.
In the bottom of the 6th Pitches and Hoes' bats were still hot. Lopez hit a solo homerun and Louis Tejada tripled and scored. Gabe Serralta, Mike P. and Eric Mendez had RBIs and Kato tacked on a two-run homer, giving Pitches and Hoes and 30-19.
Goodwood could not overcome the 11 run deficit in the final inning as Pitches and Hoes ended the marathon-like back and forth thriller softball game.
Pitches and Hoes and Goodwood are now both 3-13 on the season and return to action on Oct. 25th.
