Zacharias leads charge in sweep over NOMFIC

THE ALE HOUSE, HOBOKEN, NJ -- Zach Balog was calm, cool and collected as he steadied himself, zoned in on the table, and floated a red puck down the right lane that fluttered and spun and finally hit its mark, scoring a knockout and establishing control of Game 1.

His steady play would continue into Game 2, and shufflepuck team 'Luke, I Am Your Father' would sweep 2 games off arch-nemesis 'NOMFIC' (Number One Mother F*$** In Charge)' and a share of 1st place.

Balog was clearly the catalyst, scoring 25 of his team's 42 points. It's an auspicious start for Team Luke, as they are coming off a brutal playoff loss to the Mighty Pucks last season and really needed a boost.

For NOMFIC, it's another heartbreaking defeat in their 3-season tenure. They've shown flashes of brilliance, but just can't seem to put together a winning streak. Well, hopes and prayers.

Meanwhile in other league action, newcomers 'Zero Pucks Given' were riding high off last week's doubleheader sweep over 'Briar Bulldogs,' but ran into a buzzsaw in the form of 'Puck Dynasty,' who made an appearance in last season's Championship Series. The veteran Dynasty quickly dispatched ZPG 21-5, 21-15.

In the final set of games, team Sunday Dinner was given a rude awakening by having to face last season's champs, The EarthQUATES, who were fresh off their Lord Shuffle Cup Trophy victory.

Sunday Dinner exhibited a lot of team spirit, and the ladies put forth a valiant effort, but they were just no match for the defending champions.

It's a pivotal upcoming Thursday night for some teams, as the Summer Puck Division takes shape. Good luck.
