Gus Guida smashes walk off homerun

SUNDAY, October 5th---it was battle of the gloves between the Slingers and Insects, as defenses dominated during the game.  The extremely tight competition left no margin for error as each play in the field was magnified with the growing pressures of keeping up with perfection.  There was a factor that separated the two teams that made the difference between the Insects wining 2 to 1.

The player, the hero, the legend we speak of, is Gus Guida.

The 3rd basemen set the tone for the game for both teams as Slinger Lauren Canonico & Insect Gus Guida made several incredible plays at the position.  The web gems didn’t stop with them; Slinger John Lesko hit a hard line drive that looked to get through but Insect 2nd baseman Alex Elkas made a great catch to get the out as well as Insect 1st baseman Jen Sadowsky who has been killing it with her glove.  Jen has been minimizing any errors by scooping up any balls thrown in the dirt all season long.

It looked as if the Slingers were going to break the 1 to 1 tie but Insect outfielder Joe Torre made two great throws to 3rd base to get the runners out.  On top of his deadly arm, Joe looked as if he was speed skating on ice as he bolted across the outfield to make a pivotal sliding catch to end the inning.

The score was tied 1 to 1 going into the bottom of the 7th inning.  Insect Gus Guida stepped into the batter’s box as he led off the inning.  The pitch was up and the sound of thunder came off the bat as the ball went sailing over the left field fence.  Gus finished the game with 2 solo homeruns giving his team a 2 to 1 victory.

After the game the children at the field wanted to get Gus’ autograph, but he was gone.  It was like he had vanished into the night. ABL asked around if anyone has seen him but most people just shook their heads.  A few individuals did tell us a Mama Johnson myth that has been passed down from generation to generation of how a man with herculean strength would help a team in need.  People know what they saw on Sunday... or was it a figment of our imaginations?
