SUNDAY, Sept 21st---after the defeat of Schreib Tribe in the Summer League’s East Division championship game, the Slingers have earned the right to be in talks about being a dynasty.  In the past 6 seasons, the Slingers have won 3 championships, making ABL sound like a broken record when reporting on their outcomes.

Great players step up in big moments, and there is no bigger moment than a championship game.  All of the greats have made their mark in history with dynamite plays just like Slinger Joe Rockhill and Meghan Quinlan did against the TribeJoe picked the right time to elevate his game by making an incredible sliding catch in center field, to crushing the seams off the ball at the plate.  Joe finished the game going 4 for 5 at the plate with a homerun and 5RBIs.  Megan followed suit at the plate going 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.

When people look back at the 1977, World Series’ game 6, they think of Reggie Jackson’s power as he hit 3 homeruns.  The same will be true several years from now when remembering Jason Orr, Ryan Hall, and Jesse Daunno as they showcased their power, collectively hitting 3 homeruns.

The defensive infield unit was a major reason for the success the Slingers had on Sunday night.  Through 9 innings of play, (1st baseman)    Ben Berardino, (2nd baseman) Alicia Mattielo, (shortstop) James Amadeo, (3rd) Lauren Canonico, and (catcher) Alaina Smith/Laura Tomana not only made plays with their gloves, but really defined what it means to work as a team.  When runners were on base, they all worked as one communicating with each other the best way to get the out and end the inning.

When it was all said and done, the Slingers defeated Schreib Tribe 20 to 9.
