A perfect finish to an undefeated season

MONDAY, July 7---Louise & Jerry’s has done the unthinkable by accomplishing a goal that every team sets their sights on.  They have won the coed softball competition division championship, but in the process the team looked as if they were immortal going a PERFECT 10 and 0.

The last game of the spring season was the biggest game for them by not only having the championship title on the line, but also keeping the undefeated streak intact.  The Pourhouse Sliders took on this feat of crushing L & J’s dream and turning it into a nightmare.   In a valiant effort, the Pourhouse Sliders fell short as Louise & Jerry’s defeated them 12 to 8.

The Sliders came out swinging scoring 6 runs in the first 4 innings of play but L & J did a great job stopping the bleeding by playing great heads up softball.  Pourhouse Slider Jamie Hornberger had a great hit into the gap in the outfield for a double and wanted to give his team that little extra trying to stretch it out into a triple.  L & J outfielder Angel Romano fielded the ball perfectly and made a great throw to third baseman Jude Bracken, who in turn threw the ball to 2nd baseman Jamie Cheeka who tagged Jaime Hornberger sliding back to 2nd.

When playing on the main stage the little things get magnified due to the pressure that exists on the field.  Louise & Jerry Kristine Cheeka has had a gold glove at 1st base this season.  Teammates like Anthony Muccioli and Jude Bracken fire the ball to first time and time again.  For the most part, the throws are always on target; however some aren’t always the cleanest ones with the ball hitting the dirt.  The all-star that Kristine is, she makes the bad throws have the same results as the good ones.  They all turn into outs.

Chris Lyons aka Cutty gives Louise & Jerry’s an unfair advantage over their opponents.  One of the best all round players ABL has to offer, Chris can play at any position at the highest level.  He also is able to use his bat to match his glove play.  Cutty quietly is tied with 7 homeruns for the team lead and finished 2nd in RBIs with 14.  His 3 run jack was heard loud and clear giving his team the run support needed in one of the biggest moments against the Pourhouse Sliders.

Years from now when tuning into ESPN Classic, the viewer will get to look back at the historical run by Louise & Jerry’s 2014 spring season.
