Dan Lyons hits Game Winner

Sunday, June 1--- In the past 3 weeks, there hasn’t been a more dominant team in the Hoboken Rec Division than Farkle.  They were riding a 2 game winning streak heading into their match up against the Angry Leprechauns at Mama Johnson Field.  During their 2 game span, Farkle’s defense was stellar in which they only let up 1 run.  Farkle’s gloves will be truly tested when going up against the Angry Leps, who are one of the top teams in the division.

After falling to a 3 - 0 deficit, Caitlyn O'Loughlin took away the zero on the scoreboard knocking in Sean Byrnes with her RBI single.  Shortly after, Rob Lennon belted 2 run home run tying the game up 3 to 3.  Rob has been tearing the cover off the ball during Farkle’s current winning streak.  Over the course of the past 3 games, he went 9 for 13, with 2 homeruns, and 4 RBI.

If ABL was handing out grades, Farkle’s defense would have gotten an A.  Their infield really stepped up getting them out of a few jams with two huge double plays. It wasn’t just the infield that studied their opponent’s offense, outfielders Mark Young and Rob Lennon must have pulled off an all nighter with their game play.  Mark made a sensational snow cone grab running into shallow centerfield.  Rob not only used his glove, but it looks as if he cheated on this exam writing the answers on his arm.  Rob made a bullet of a throw to 3rd base to get the sliding runner out.

Farkle Maggie Young’s 2 for 3 helped tie the game up again 5 to 5 in the bottom of the 6th inning.  After a 1, 2, 3 top of the 7th inning, Farkle Casey Gorman started off the bottom of the 7th with a lead off walk.  The bases were loaded with 1 out, and Farkle Dan Lyons stepped up to the plate with the tension rising pitch by pitch.  Dan came through in the clutch hitting in the game winner run.  Farkle defeated the Angry Leprechauns 6 to 5.

Popular dance moves like the Twist and the Macarena have hit the scene hard in the past, only to end up fading away.  This generation might be different. The Farkle craze has hit the ABL scene and looks to be catching on.
