Slingers Red Hot

Winning trend continues

The undefeated Slingers are 5 and 0 after their latest win in the Hoboken Coed Rec Division.  Teams are shaking in fear when they look at the game schedule, hoping not to see Slingers as their opponent.  Team Captain Jason Orr is like a master chef when putting a team together.  He knows exactly what ingredients to use to make the perfect recipe for success in softball.

After 5 games in the books, Slingers have 50 runs scored and only 15 runs against.  They have held their opponents to just 2 or less runs, 3 of the 5 games played.  Their defense makes it look easy with the talent they have on the roster.

Their defense has been ruining competitors’ batting averages with big play after big play.  The core group responsible for these acts against offense is 1st baseman Jess Lesko, who is as tough as they come.  At 2nd base is Alicia Mattiello, who is banned from using a glove in 14 states.  Playing at shortstop is James A who catches everything but a cold.  Holding down 3rd base is Lauren Canonico, AKA “Pants”, making plays with style. Kids save any memorabilia signed by outfielders (LF) Jesse Duanno, (CF) Ryan Hall, and (RF) Joe Rockhill because they will be 1st ballot hall of famers with their game play.  The entire defense starts with the pitcher and Jason Orr has looked like the next Nolan Ryan.  He has an outstanding 3.16 ERA, and is tied for first with strike outs.

The Slingers’ offense is a big part of their success.  Overall, the Slingers have 6 players out of the top 10 in hits.  James A is one of the top leadoff batters with 13 hits, and is in the top with runs scored.  Several of his teammates are right behind him.  Alicia Mattiello and Lauren Canonico are both hitting above .600.  Despite Jason Orr’s strike out (just kidding with you), Jason, Joe, Ryan, and Jesse have been pretty much automatic when getting on base.

The good news is that the Slingers have only 4 games remaining on their schedule.  The bad news is facing them in the playoffs.
