Intriguing 1st round match ups

This upcoming Sunday begins the fall co-ed softball playoffs at Mama Johnson Field, in Hoboken, NJ.  The top four teams in each division qualified to make up a very talented playoff schedule.  ABL is looking forward to teams’ giving it their all in what looks to be a very exciting opening round.

Carlton Fisk Division

The #1 seed Angry Leprechauns will be facing #4 seed Thunder Bunnies in the 1st round this Monday.  Both these teams are no strangers to each other and this match up has championship caliber written all over it.  During the spring season the Thunder Bunnies were the #1 seed and Angry Leps were the 4th seed.  Angry Leps pulled off a huge upset in which the Thunder Bunnies look to do this Monday.  Thunder Bunnies are coming off a 2 game win streak and look to get retribution for losing 17 to 3 to the Angry Leps during their meeting this season.  Will Thunder Bunnies Brian Sullivan and Jennifer Isler be able to stop the onslaught brought by Jon Polonitza and Lauren Arensberg’s bats?

The #2 seed Insects are set to square off against #3 seed Biggie’s this Sunday in what looks to be an all-out slugfest.  The Insects are one of the hottest teams in softball riding their 5 game winning streak into the playoffs.  Insect Gus Guida is coming off a career best game.  He went 4 for 4, 3 runs, 1 triple, 3 homeruns, with game high 12 RBIs.  In the past, Biggie’s has squashed the Insects 18 to 4.  Does Biggie’s have the repellent needed to keep this revamped Insects team from being a nuisance?

George Brett Division

If the game between #3 seed Mission 50 Workspaces Comp Vs.  #2 seed Louise & Jerry's Hit Squad this Sunday is half as good as it was during the course of the season, ABL is in for a real treat.  It was probably the most intense game played all season.  Mission 50 defeated L & J 8 to 6 in what was Mission 50’s break out game.  That doesn’t mean Louise & Jerry’s is any pushover because they have one of the best offensive and defensive rosters plus they won the spring championship.  L & J Chris Lyons is leading the team with 5 homeruns and 12 RBIs and is one of the top shortstops in the league. An added bonus is Chris will be playing against his good friend Kelvin Cabrera on Mission 50.  Kelvin is leading the division in RBIs with 16.  Will Mission 50’s Adam Schreiber and Kaitlin Foley lead there team to victory, or will L & J’s Jude Bracken have another legendary playoff performance?

McSwiggans Pub finished with a 7 and 1 record which earned them the top spot.  McSwiggans’ manager Jim Pilla put together a team which is always in the championship conversation.  Jim devised a perfect plan.  He outsmarted his opponent the final week of the regular season by forfeiting the game and stopping any chance of becoming a perfect 8 and 0 (Jim your teammates made me write that, I am sorry).  In all seriousness, McSwiggans will have their hands full against the #4 seed Pourhouse Sliders this Monday night.  Pourhouse might be the underdog but they have the power to make them dominant.  Pourhouse’s Sean Pardue leads the league with 7 homeruns and the team leads the league with 17 homeruns. Does McSwiggans have the kryptonite to take down Pourhouse’s superman strength?  ABL will find the answers to all these questions this weekend.  GOOD LUCK!
