Impressive 7-1 record wins top spot in Carlton Fisk Division

SUNDAY, October 27, 2013—After winning their double header at Mama Johnson Field in Hoboken, NJ, the Angry Leprechauns finished their fall softball season on top with a dominating 7 and 1 record.

In their first game they defeated Turtle Club 5 to 3, and in their second game defeated Biggie’s 5 to 2.  Both these victories were critical in determining the playoff picture because if the Leprechauns fell to Turtle Club they would have dropped to the #2 seed where they would have been playing the #3 seed instead of the 4
th seed.

In game 1 of the doubleheader, Angry Lep Travis Boyer and Kara Giannecchini carried the offense, combining for 5 of the 8 runs hit in.  Travis got hot early hitting a 2 run home run in the 1st inning which was his 2nd homerun of the season.  His teammate Kara did a great job coming through in the clutch when Turtle Club got within 1 run.  Kara gave her team some breathing room with her 2 RBIs to lead her team one step closer to the division title.

Angry Leprechauns’ 2nd game of the night proved there are many ways they can defeat a team. They have a similar style like the undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather who frustrates his opponents with incredible defense, and the power and speed of his offense.  During the course of the Angry Leprechauns’ season they have only let up more than 3 runs once in a game.

In their 5-2 defeat of Biggie's, two key defensive plays were the turning point. Biggie’s had men on 1st and 2nd and an infield hit looked to make bases loaded with 1 out.  Angry Lep’s shortstop Jon Polonitza charged and layed out to make an unbelievable catch to keep the runners from advancing.  However, Biggie’s looked to take the lead in the 6th inning with bases loaded, but Angry Lep’s catcher Aileen Scott made a game winning catch on a foul ball that looked to be out of play.

Angry Leprechauns’ shortstop Jon Polonitza took control of the game offensively against Biggie’s.  Jon went 3 for 3 with 2B, 2 home runs, and 3 RBIs.  That is just the tip of the iceberg offensively for Jon.  During the course of the season, he leads the league with 14 runs, 19 hits, 9 doubles, 6 home runs (tied), and went 19 for 24 with a .792 batting average.  Those numbers are insane!

The defending spring champions are looking to have a repeat performance this fall in the playoffs.  The team is heading into the playoffs in the right direction.  When Brian Greenberg hit his legendary triple, the team showed their camaraderie getting out of the dugout clapping and cheering him on while rounding the bases.  The Angry Leps will be facing the #4 seed Thunder Bunnies in the 1st round.
