Jack Winters and Chris Donohue give team playoff aspirations

Sunday, October 20, 2013— Many people use the phrase from Aesop's Fables, “slow and steady wins the race.”  This phrase directly relates to both the Turtle Club and Thunder Bunnies in the Carlton Fisk Division.  In the fable of ABL’s race for the playoffs, the Thunder Bunnies took an early lead, jumping out on top with a 3 and 0 record, while the Turtle Club started off slow going 0 and 3.  Since their dominating start, the Bunnies seemed to have lost steam because they have dropped 4 in a row, and after Turtle Club went 2 and 0 in their Sunday night double header, they are only 1 game back from the final playoff spot.

The Turtle Club is now 2-4 in the Fall Rec Division. They defeated Mission 50 rec 6 to 4 in their first game, but their second game of the night really is what turned their season around.  The Turtle Club defeated the Thunder Bunnies 14 to 2, splitting the head to head match ups at one game apiece.

Turtle Club put up 14 runs in their victory against the Bunnies which was their highest run total all season long.  Jack Winters, Chris Donahue, and Erin Hopkins played a big part in helping their team win with three outstanding offensive performances.  Jack went 4 for 4 with 2 runs, 1 homerun, and 5 RBIs, Chris had 3 triples on the night and 3 RBIs, and Erin went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

In the top of the 6th inning, Turtle Club’s shortstop Chris Donohue made a great heads up double play with 2nd baseman Christine Blanco to get out of the inning.  However, the play of the game goes to Turtle Club’s left fielder Keith Carpenter who made an amazing sliding catch in foul territory coming inches away from hitting the fence.

With the fall season winding down and the finish line in sight, will Turtle Club’s outcome be the same as it is in Aesop’s Fables?  ABL will see with 2 games remaining on their season.
