Big night for Ryan Arcadia and Melissa Manganelli

SUNDAY, October 7, 2013—After a rocky start, the Insects started getting into a winning groove.  In Sunday night’s competition at Mama Johnson Field in Hoboken, they improved to a three and two record.  Their most recent win didn’t get the team above a .500 winning percentage, but they beat an undefeated Thunder Bunnies team 11 - 5.

The Insects played great ball on both sides of the diamond.  They held the Thunder Bunnies to only two extra base hits.  Thunder Bunny Brian Alfson was responsible for the teams’ two extra base hits.  He went two for three with two runs, a double, and a homer, and drove in three.

Earlier in the season  ABL did a scouting report on players to watch out for in the upcoming season.  If teams didn’t get the memo, they are realizing it now. Two of the players on the list were Ryan Arcadia and Melissa Manganelli.  The Insect's shortstop Ryan Arcadia is able to cover a huge chunk of field with his glove and has cannon for an arm.

In the bottom of the third inning he pulled an unassisted double play to get out of the inning.  His teammate Melissa Manganelli followed his lead in the outfield Sunday night.  Melissa made a selfless leaping catch to get the out and save her team from a potential bases clearing triple.

They didn’t just have a big night defensively, Melissa and Ryan both played big roles in the teams’ offense as well.  Ryan went three for four, three runs, a double, two homers and three RBI.  Melissa singled in an RBI in four at bats.

Next week the Insects will be facing Mission 50 Workspaces Rec.
