Louise & Jerry’s hold on in extra innings

SUNDAY, September 22—On this cool crisp night, Louise & Jerry’s squared off against the Slingers at Mama Johnson Field in a marquee doubleheader.  The Slingers  were coming off a red-hot summer with their 8 and 2 record and championship win in the Chris Davis Division.  The team decided to step their game up and returned to the George Brett Division.  These two highly competitive teams put on a show with their match-up coming down to the last out.

The gloves were out Sunday night, and not because the temperatures dropped.  Both teams had their A game on defense, not letting anything drop or go by.  Slinger 3rd baseman Katie Fritz put on a show all night long, stopping everything that was hit near her and making it look easy.  Louise & Jerry’s 3rd baseman John Rivera played the left side of the diamond perfectly and made a great diving catch on the foul line and threw the runner out from his knees to end the inning.

Both teams put some runs up from the long ball. In the bottom of the 2nd inning L&J John Rivera hit a 2 run shot into right field to give his team the lead.  He wasn’t the only one displaying power Sunday night, because Slinger captain Jason Orr hit two solo shots to keep his team in the game.

In top of the 6th inning Louise & Jerry’s had a 5 to 1 lead and had a man on 2nd base with slugger Angel Romano at the plate.  Angel has displayed in the past his power, and he hit a shot to deep center but it was caught by Andrew Thurmond.  L&J Chris Lyons with his speed tried to tag home from 2nd base and Andrew made a great throw to shortstop Ryan Hall who gunned down Chris Lyons sliding at the plate to get the out.

The Slingers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the game up 5 to 5 to bring the game to extras.

Louise & Jerry Angel Lefty gave his team the lead with a 2 run triple in the top of the 8th inning. The Slingers looked like they were going to come back again in the bottom of the 8th inning when they had a man on first base with 1 out.  L& J 2nd baseman Stephanie Soares had another storyline in mind.  She made a great heads up double play when the ball was hit to her; she tagged the runner going to 2nd and threw the runner out at 1st to end the game.

Louise& Jerry’s defeated Slingers 7 to 5.
