Slingers trounce Angry Leprechauns 16 to 7

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8 —the Slingers took on the Angry Leprechauns at Stevens College and started the game with their bats red hot.

They finished the game with their bats blazing.

The Slingers opened up the game with a 6-run 1st inning and finished the game with a 5-run inning.  They scored in every inning of the game. Every single player on their roster on Wednesday night recorded a hit.  The Angry Leprechauns cut the lead in the 2nd inning, scoring 5 runs to make the game 8 to 5, but they couldn’t keep pace with the Slingers offense.

Slingers’ shortstop James Amadeo led the game off with a solo homerun to start the 6 run rally in the 1st inning.  James wasn’t the only Slinger showing he had power in the game.  Alicia Mattiello led the 2nd inning with an impressive homerun to right field along with Drew Toresco's 2 run homerun.  Drew had a monster night and finished the game going 3 for 4 with 5 RBI.

Field 2’s left field fence is the equivalent to Fenway Park’s Green Monster, home of the Boston Red Sox.  Slingers’ team captain Jason Orr hit a booming homerun over Stevens College left field fence, hitting the science building.  Jason finished the game 4 for 4 needing a triple to get the cycle.

The Slingers’ offense is giving teams in the Chris Davis Division a cause for concern. They finished 4 out of 7 games scoring 10 or more runs.  They currently have a 6 and 1 record with their only loss against Biggie's on July 17th of a score 2 to 1.

The playoffs are just around the corner but the Slingers can’t look too far ahead because they are playing 2nd place Mission 50 in their final regular season game. Mission 50 has been having a great season,  allowing only 14 total runs scored against them while scoring 69.  The winner of the game will determine the Chris Davis Division number 1 seed.
