18-17 Win over Green Rock

STEVENS COLLEGE, HOBOKEN, NJ -- It was a close one on Field 2 in Hoboken last Thursday night as Biggie's squared off against Green Rock with both teams swinging hot bats. It was Biggie's, however, that would prove to be swinging the hottest.

Green Rock drew first blood after Keith reached base on a singe and came around to score later that inning when the defense mishandled a ball of the bat of Christine. Biggies answered the very next inning with RBI doubles off the bats of Kim and George to take a 2-1 lead.

Biggies however struggled to keep up with Green Rock over the next two innings as Green Rock put up 12 more runs behind the bat of Keith and Nicole who combined for 5 RBI's, 4 runs including a solo shot over the wall by Keith. Biggies scored only 4. However this game, at 13-6, was far from over.

The table turned over the next two innings in favor of Biggies. Green Rock scored only 4 more runs, all in the top of the fifth. Biggies, however, scored 6 runs in the bottom of the fifth and went into the bottom of the fifth trailing 17-12 with plenty of life left.

The Rally started with a double by JP who later scored off the bat of Andrea G. on another mishandled ball by Green Rock. After Julia ground out, Baralca singled in Andrea G. and was later brought home by a homerun off the bat of his brother Quame to make it 17-16. After a groundout by Kim to get their second out of the night, George, one of the leading hitters on their team, smacks a double. Then Andrea R. was able to keep the inning alive by hitting a daunting chip shot that fell in for a shallow single and scored George, tying the game.

Then, at 17-17 with two outs, Mike stepped up to the plate with the hopes of his team on his bat. After taking the first pitch, Mike, with a swift swing hit the ball far down the left field line, keeping it fair by inches. Andrea raced around the bases beating the throw to crush Green Rocks efforts.

What a ball game!

Biggies wins 18-17. They take on Mission 50 (4-1) tonight in a battle for 1st place.
