Trout Division def. Swisher Division 15-10

MONDAY, JULY 29, 2013—It was a perfect summer night that set the stage for a battle of the best and brightest at Mama Johnson field in Hoboken, NJ.  The sky was clear and the All Stars were out showcasing their talents against one another. Both the Nick Swisher and Mike Trout Divisions were represented by the cream of the crop - names like Polonitza, Bracken, Marucci and Sullivan - sluggers who terrorized the league throughout the regular season and playoffs.

The first ever Coed Spring All-Star Game had everything a player and fan wanted.  Fellow teammates who didn’t make the all star roster did a great job of supporting and cheering their teammates on from the stands, while the players returned the favor with an exciting, back-and-forth game.

A Night To Remember

The offense started in right off the bat.

In the top of the 1st inning, Trout all-star Jude Bracken (Louise & Jerry) didn’t lose a step when he hit a 2 run homerun to put his team up 3. He finished the game going 3 for 3 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI, and with game stats like these, its no surprise why he was one of the league leaders in homeruns and RBI and a leading candidate for MVP.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Swisher all-stars swung back.

Jonathan Polonitza (Angry Leps) tied the game up with a 3 run bomb that travelled deep into the night.  He went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI in the game, closing out a dominating season where he hit 10 HR's and 33 RBI's in only 9 games played.

They weren’t the only players to showcase their power.  Nick Swisher all-stars’ Kelvin Cabrera (Sky Club), Brian Sullivan (Thunder Bunnies), and Chris Weiss (Thunder Bunnies) all hit homeruns in the game, keeping the bleacher creatures cheering and on their feet.

In the 2nd inning, Nick Swisher All-stars lost focus, letting up 8 runs in the inning.  They were down 11 to 3 after the top of the 2nd, but didn’t call it quits. They added another 3 runs, and consistently peppered the scoreboard in the first 5 innings of the game to get within 3 runs making the game 13 to 10.

But the Mike Trout Allstars shut down their offense for the rest of the game. Trout teammates Erika Lesher (Louise & Jerry), Nicole Falgiano (Pourhouse), and Bob Szuhany (Dumbledore) contributed to their team’s victory with key offensive moments in Monday night’s match up.

In the end, the Trout Division reigned supreme.

Overall, Monday night’s All-star game generated excitement with a slew of web gems and offensive bursts of power. There were constant highlights, inning after inning. Defensive feats like when Swisher all star Chris Lyons (Sky Club)  and Adam Schreiber (M50)  teamed up to throw out Corey Brown sliding into 3rd base.... and Jude Bracken (Louise & Jerry's) throwing a bullet from left field to get Brian Sullivan out at home.

This was one for the ages. An epic game that properly concluded an amazing Spring Season of Softball, and ABL wants to thank the players and fans for participating and making it a great night.
