Elite squad starts season with win

Jersey City, NJ -- Hoop There It Is and the JC Tropics put on the most competitive game of the night. Both teams started the game with a high level of energy and effort.

JC Tropics were in control most of the first half, leading by as many as 5, but their downside was not taking care of the ball. Both teams had some sloppy possessions and careless passes, but bounced back. The game stayed close in score, and Hoop There It Is was able to take their first lead with 5 minutes to go. They looked to make the right play, communicated well and out rebounded. After multiple lead changes Hoop There It Is held a 27-24 lead at the break. JC Tropics Jesse Weeks led the team with 8 points and Hoop’s Drew Leatherman led all players with 12 points.

Hoop There It Is kept that same momentum going into the 2nd half, playing on fire on offense and defense. They forced multiple turnovers and made JC Tropics pay for it. In the first 3 minutes, Hoop had 3 steals to contribute to a 10-2 run to increase their lead by 14. JC Tropics lost their rhythm, stopped talking on both ends of the floor and put themselves in a double-digit hole.

Hoop There It Is was in the driver’s seat the entire 2nd half, but JC Tropics wouldn’t go away. What won the game for Hoop was moving the ball. They assisted on most of their made field goals and stole the win 63-53.

JC Tropic’s Jesse Weeks wrapped up with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block along with Brandon Ren kart adding 10 points. Hoop There It Is’ Drew Leatherman finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist, Ramone Webster added 14 points (four 3’s) and Mike Minion contributed 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
