Monstarz steals game one but L.O.B. comes back with a vengeance for game two.

Palisades Park – Sunday morning featured a double-header between two of the top three teams of the Hubie Brooks Division, L.O.B. (5-1) and Monstarz (6-2).  Monstarz hung tough with their opponent in game one.  L.O.B. jumped out to an early 9-5 lead after just two innings but Monstarz stayed tight and outscored their 5-4 over the next three innings.  This game would be decided in the sixth, with Monstarz winning the inning 6-2 to come all the way back and steal the victory by a score of 16-15.  They were fueled by bats of Alex, Jeremy, and Rell who combined for a whopping 11 of 12 at the plate, accounting for eight runs and combining for five RBI’s.  L.O.B.’s trio of Kevin Kunz, Scott Morrissey, and Alex Monte closely matchup with their 10 of 12 effort that included six runs and six RBI’s.  Erwin Cabrera also added a solo homerun, but it wouldn’t be enough.

L.O.B. clearly wasn’t thrilled with the outcome of game one and it showed in game two.  They came back with a vengeance. The game was close through three innings of play with L.O.B. actually trailing Monstarz 14-13.  However, it was all L.O.B. from there.  They stormed out with eleven runs in the fourth and brought home “just” seven more in the fifth.  Monstarz were held to just 5 runs over those two innings and the spelled mercy.  L.O.B. made quick work of game two and secured the split by a score of 31-19.  Monstarz were no slouches at the plate, with every batter hitting .500 or better but L.O.B. was just that much better achieving the same impressive feat and then some.  Reuben Ceballos, Steve Bottieri, and Monte combined for a perfect 11 of 11 at the plate, with Ceballos, Brian Kunz, and Chris Walsh each hitting homeruns on the afternoon.  Ceballos, Bottieri, and Monte combined for ten runs and eleven RBI’s, and Brian Kunz paced the team with his 5 RBI’s

With the split, L.O.B. improves to 6-2 to maintain second place in the division before taking on Big Big Willies.  Monstarz improves to 7-3 to stay close behind in third place for the division and their next matchup will be against Madd Hatters.  Both of these teams will be favored heading into next weekend.
