Hoboken, NJ – Monday night featured two matchups that would come down to the wire. Game one saw Wicked Wolf take on Jet.com. Wicked Wolf came out of the gates firing with 5 runs in the first two innings and big blows coming from Chase Kennedy’s 2 RBI double in the first and Bobby Bailey’s 2-run homerun in the second. However, Jet.com would impressively double up their opponent with 10 over the same two innings. They achieved this primarily with small ball, but Ric Selleck did put an exclamation point on the scoring with his 3-run inside the park homerun in the second. Jet.com may have gotten a bit too complacent though, as they would not score another run the rest of the way. Give credit to the Wicked Wolf defense, keeping them in the game while they tried to rally back. They’d plate one run in the third and two in the fifth on a Matt Murphy 2-run blast. The comeback would fall short though, as Jet.com buckled down and shut out their opponent in the final two frames to take the game by a score of 10-8.
Game two was a battle between veterans McSwiggans and Slingers. Similar to game one, both teams shook off any rust early and came out swinging. McSwiggans plated two in the top of the first, but Slingers answered immediately with a 2-run moonshot off the bat of Dave Fuentes to tie up the game. McSwiggans, however, would show off their prowess at the plate and bat around, knocking in six runs. After scoring one, Rob Lennon stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and would promptly unload the bases with monster grand slam to left center. For good measure, Chris Moseley smacked a solo shot to cap off the scoring in the inning. After being held scoreless in the second, Slingers bounced back with four runs in the third to get themselves back into the game. This was a result of a pair of 2-run homers off the bats of Greg Prestipino and Fuentes, his second of the game. Slingers shut down the McSwiggans offense over the next four frames to give themselves a chance at the win. Down 8-6 in the fifth, an RBI double of the bat of Jason Orr brought the Slingers deficit to just one run. Some small ball and smart baserunning allowed McSwiggans to tack on an insurance run in the top of the seventh and the defense would shut the door on Slingers in the bottom of the frame, closing out the victory by a score of 9-7.
