L.O.B. plates 15 twice, good enough for a double header sweep of Underdogs.

Palisades Park, NJ – It was opening day with both teams looking to start the season strong.  L.O.B. took on Underdogs and would do just that, earning a sweep to start the season perfect at 2-0.  It was a good all-around effort, with the offense posting 15 runs in each game while the defense held their opponent to just 11 runs combined on the day.

Underdogs came out swinging in game one with 4 runs in the first, but that deficit was erased in the blink of an eye with L.O.B. plating 7 in the bottom of the frame.  L.O.B. tacked on 1 more in the second to take an 8-4 lead, but Underdogs came back with 2 in the third to cut it to 8-6.  However, it was all L.O.B. from there, outscoring their opponent 7-2 over the next three innings before closing the door in the top of the seventh, earning the 15-8 victory.

Underdogs were again in the game early for game two, scoring all 3 of their runs in the first two innings and taking an early 3-1 lead into the third.  Again though, L.O.B. would buckle down and take over from there.  They shut out Underdogs the rest of the way while the offense put up runs in 4 of the next 5 innings, including a 6 spot in both the third and the seventh innings.  L.O.B. earned the sweep with a 15-3 victory in game two.

Contributions were made up and down the lineup for L.O.B., with 10 of 11 batters reaching base safely in both games.  The team hit a combine .542 on the day, led by a 5 for 7 effort from Chris Walsh.  Big swings came from Mike Akkus and Steve Bottieri, who hit a pair of homeruns for L.O.B in the double header.  Bottieri also led the team with 5 RBI’s, followed closely by Umair Suri and Anes Radonic with 4 apiece.  The good all-around team effort means the L.O.B. gets to head into week two with a perfect record intact, and they will look to keep that going against Seton Smash.
