Swamp Donkeys & Underdogs Split

Underdogs & Swamp Donkeys met for the 1st time ever on Sunday.  Talk about the best weather day of the year: 75 degrees with a bright sun & a breeze?  Sign me up all day, any day!  The teams were evenly matched and both games would come down to the wire, resulting in a pair of 1 run victories!

Underdogs secured their first win of the season taking Game 1 by a score of 8-7.  There were 4 lead changes for this one alone!  Leading the way in RBI's for Underdogs was Orlando & Mario with 2 apiece.  Cleanup man JB led the squad with 2 runs scored.  On the flip side, team captain/pitcher Nova came up huge for Swamp Donkeys when he cracked a 2-run dinger in the top of the 3rd, worth noting that this was the only homer of the game.  The wind was playing some nasty tricks on balls that were coming off the bat hard, making life a bit difficult in the outfield.  However, there was still some solid defense from Dan in left field, who made an incredible catch of a deep ball that was headed to foul territory.  He covered a lot of ground to get to it & make the play!

Swamp Donkeys had a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.  However, after a couple of bad hops in the infield, Underdogs capitalized with a walk, back to back to back singles & capped the comeback off with Mario's 2 RBI sac fly deep into right center. Game over!

Game 2 was literally a replica of the Game 1, just reverse the teams in the win/loss column!  Yes, there was some more offensive firepower though.  Swamp Donkeys scored 15 runs, with James leading the way with 4 RBI's.  Not far behind was Frankie & Gonzo with 3 each.  Underdogs came out strong, scoring 7 in the top of the 1st.  Moe had 4 RBI's to lead the team (3 accounted for on one blasted homerun).  JB & Jay tied for the team lead in runs scored at 3 apiece.  Underdogs had a 3 run lead heading into the bottom of the 6th (time limit would cut this one off here).  Then the wheels fell off.  Matt R. singled, James flew out to left, Frankie walked, Matt singled (bases now juiced), Chris smacks a 2 RBI single (now down by just 1), Votta flies out (tremendous catch by Dan yet again in left), then Gonzo plays hero with the walk off 2 RBI single!  Ballgame!
