Jersey City- Bucket Szn and Scrappy Szn met for the first time this season and the best way to define this game was bad blood. From tip-off it was clear both sides really wanted this victory. It was physical on defense on every possession, aggressive on offense and hostile all around. Scrappy Szn had the edge early on with a 6-point lead, but Bucket Szn came storming right back for the lead with an 8-0 run. With a 14-2 run overall, Bucket Szn now led by 6 and led by as many as 9 points in the half. Scrappy Szn had some miscommunications on defense, but were hanging around nonetheless. They started swinging the ball and hit some big 3-pointers. Bucket Szn ended the half playing some tough defense, which led to turnovers at the hands of Scrappy Szn and allowed Bucket Szn to go on a 6-0 run. They led at the half 36-28 behind Vic Rosario and Keyaire Martin’s 10-point apiece.
In the second half both teams came out with the same energy but were more physical. Scrappy Szn started off hot and came within 3, but, as always, Bucket Szn knew how to respond. Bucket Szn went on a run of their own to go back up by 9, leading by as many as 18 and Scrappy Szn found themselves playing catch-up. They were scrambling to find offense for a period of time and couldn’t get stops on defense. Behind Antonio Burnett’s motivation and trash talk, Scrappy Szn went on a 7-0 run. Too bad Bucket Szn got the last laugh. They held their composure and went on to win in this exciting battle 66-55. Scrappy Szn’s Antonio Burnett was the only player in double figures, finishing with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists followed by Rahmaan Patton’s 9 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. Bucket Szn’s Vic Rosario posted another double-double 24 points, 15 rebounds and 2 blocks with Keyaire Martin adding 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
