HURLEY'S COURT, JC, NJ -- The Wolfpack has been on a strong playoff push as they came into this marquee matchup on a 4-game winning streak, while Hoop There It Is is trying to hold on to their undefeated record. This would be no easy match-up for either team.
The pace of the game started well for both teams. With smothering defensive efforts, both teams were able to knock down some tough shots. This forced multiple lead changes through the first half. While Hoop There It Is was on a run and felt confident, the trash talk started, but Wolfpack responded perfectly. They quieted their opponents by going on a huge run at the end the first half and took a 6-point lead, 30-24. The ball movement was flawless. Hoop There It Is’ Jordan Wejnert led all players with 10 points and Wolfpack’s Josh Heyer led his team with 9 points.
The Wolfpack kept that same intensity to begin the second half and extended their lead to 9, but Hoop There It Is isn’t undefeated for no reason. They turned on their offense, and got into a defensive rhythm that turned into more offense. Hoop went on a 10-0 run for their first lead since midway through the first half. After this point, it was a dog-fight and anyone’s game as the score was only a 1-point lead back and forth for both teams with 2 minutes to go.
At the 1-minute mark, Hoop There It Is’ Drew Leatherman hit a clutch 3-pointer to take the lead, which iced the game. Hoop There It Is secured the tough 55-50 win and retained bragging rights.
Jordan Wejnert finished with 13 points, 7 assists, and 8 rebounds, Gary Hettinger added 9 points, 6 assists, 2 steals and 3 rebounds, but the second half show-stopper was Mike Minion. He owned the game with 19 points (17 in the second half), 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. Wolfpack's Josh Heyer finished with 13 points, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 rebounds and D. Wiggins added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block.
