Division takes shape as teams prepare for March Madness

JERSEY SHORE -- In a battle of the last two unbeaten teams, the Tigers and View hooked up Tuesday night with sole possession of first place on the line.

Despite 26 from Andrey Bonelli, the Tigers were never really in this one. The View used a recipe of stifling defense and red hot outside shooting to secure the 72-58 win. Player of the Week Ky Meredith, who snatched 6 steals to go along with his 20 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists got help from sharp shooters Brandon Bock (17 points) and Mel Pitts (20, 7 reb, 3 steals).

The View have firmly planted themselves alone atop the standings. An upcoming matchup with the winless Scorpions, and it looks like clear skies for the View.

The SuperSonics coming off back to back losses looked to get it back in gear when they faced off with those Scorpions. Their MVP candidate Padraic Brady had another monster game going for 26/7 and 5 steals. But the Sonic size was too much for the Scorpions. John Pelka had 16 and 9 and Billy Weimmer went for 12 and 13 in the Sonic 30 point win. The Sonics get back to .500 and will hook up with the Flint Tropics, who will be looking for a little revenge coming off a week one 82-51 spanking.

The Tropics got 25 from Alex Pena but a sluggish first half put them behind the eight ball early. The run and gun tempo from the Splash Bandicoot proved to be too much. Shawn Lutz had 16 points and 9 boards and Ty Roshala running the point dropped 20 as the Splash B held on 64-62. The SB will get their second look at the Tigers who handed them a 65-51 week one beat down.

As we approach the mid way point of the winter season, teams are starting to gel and find chemistry. It still is anyone’s division to take. And with 8 players averaging over 18 points per game, the Scoring title and MVP awards are also still up for grabs. It should be an exciting month of March at the Lake.
