It's time for some playoff football! With a wide-open field, this should be an exciting race to the championship.

Believe it or not, the regular season has come to a close and we are ready for the 2018 ABL Winter Flag Football Playoffs!  That’s right, playoff football.  Is there anything better?  We’ve seen some stellar performances on both the team and individual levels this season, which has turned into a slugfest between former champs.  Both of our semifinal matchups will take place at 8:30pm on Tuesday, 3/13, and here’s what you need to know.

The north field features a highly anticipated matchup between the 2 seed 10th & Willow Wolverines and the 3 seed No Fat Chix.  10th & Willow, the defending champs of the B division, started the season at 1-1 but has since rolled off 5 straight victories to close the season at 6-1.   No Fat Chix, on the other hand, has stumbled a bit this season with only 1 win against a playoff team this season.  They finished the season at 4-3, but they still boast a roster that has won consecutive championships not long ago and held the number 1 overall seed last season.  That record also includes time without their starting quarterback and the reigning league MVP, as was the case in the two teams’ only prior matchup.  That one ended in a narrow 6-point victory for 10th & Willow Wolverines.  The two teams will have a few more additions this time around, and we look forward to another thriller to decide who will compete for the championship.

The south field will see top seeded The Flutie Boys take on the 4 seed Birds of Prey.  Birds of Prey have impressed this season as a free agent team.  It’s not often that we see a bunch of individual players come together so quickly and perform at this level, let alone in such an abbreviated season.  As such, they are the only playoff team without a championship but are looking to change that story this week.  They started well but struggled to a 3-4 record to conclude the season.  However, don’t let that fool you.  Even in those losses, they put together some strong performances to give some of these higher teams a run for their money, including The Flutie Boys.   In their lone matchup, The Flutie Boys narrowly edged out Birds of Prey in come from behind fashion.  Birds of Prey led the entire game until about a minute remained.  The Flutie Boys are coming off of another dominant season.  They stormed out of the gate to a 6-0 record, with 5 of those wins coming by at least 17 points.  They boast last year’s Outstanding Achievement Award winner and all four of this season’s Player of the Week honorees.  They had a perfect season spoiled last week, but having the 1 seed already wrapped up and a snow covered field may have had a bit to do with that.  If this game is anything like their first matchup, we can certainly expect fireworks and an exciting finish.

Congratulations to all four of our teams that have advanced to the playoffs.  Those spots are certainly well-deserved.  However, all of those regular season wins and accolades go straight out the window now.  This is truly anyone’s championship to be had, and it all starts Tuesday night.  Good Luck!
