Time to Hunt

The ABL Winter Basketball League is heading towards the final stretch, with multiple teams jockeying for playoff position. With only 4 playoff spots awarded per division, each game left has far-reaching implications for most teams. We'll see which teams have the greater desire, grit and determination to bring their game to the next level.

Westbrook Division

Thus far in the Russell Westbrook Division, the Goodfellas are steamrolling through the competition with no signs up letting up. At 7-0, they are the clear frontrunners for the top seed in the playoffs. Tymel Jackson (103 total points) has been their catalyst.

The Anytime Bail Bonds Ballers are in 2nd place at 6-1, keeping pace. Both Roberts have been impressive - Cheeks (13.5 PPG, 11.7 RPG) and Bates (12.8 PPG, 7 RPG) have led the charge.

The final two seeds are up for grabs - Ball Don't Lie (4-3), who have a stellar star player in Dylan BrossmanEZ (2-4), and Thundercats (1-5) are still alive, while the 0-7 Plan B looks to play spoiler.

Plan B has had a tough season, no doubt, but if you look closely, it's clear they've got the talent to pull out a win or two in their last few games. They only lost by 1 point to the Thundercats back on January 7th, and they just played tough against the high-flying ABB Ballers. They'll need Chris Fonti (11.7 Rebounds per game) and Hani Nasr (8.2 RPG, 12 Asst, 8 steals) to play out of their minds if they want to run the table and finish strong.

Porzingis Division

In the Kristaps Porzingis Division, there are a number of teams still in the hunt. The Wolfpack (5-1) and Charliewang Express (5-2) have played the best, and are in firm control of their own destinies.

The Alligators (4-2) and the New Mutants (5-3) both have the talent to close out the regular season on a winning streak. It's important to note that the New Mutants have 3 of the top 5 scorers in the division in point totals (Fabian, Kales, Whitaker).

Chubb (4-3) is also in the hunt, but they've been relying heavily on star player Drew Leatherman, who is averaging 14.3 PPG and 9 RPG, and Jon Dempsey (10.8 PPG and 9.0 RPG). They'll need to get more clutch play out of their role players if they want to make a legitimate push for a playoff spot.

Rounding out the division are the Smash Bros. (3-3), who have the league-leading scorer Socrate Exama (22.8 PPG), and Probably Hungover (3-4), both of which are alive and kicking. But do they have the talent and heart to go on a run? The next couple weeks will tell the story.

And don't look past the struggling Mad Hatters (1-7) - they just got their 1st win and are hungry for more, while Progressive (1-6) will really need to regroup and come together as a team if they want to spoil the party for someone.
