JERSEY CITY, NJ –- The Charliewang Express took on Chubb in a premier matchup last Tuesday night in the ABL Hoops League. Charliewang needed a win to keep pace with their nemesis, the Wolfpack, for a share of 1st place in the Kristaps Porzingis Division. They certainly controlled the tempo in the first half against Chubb with a combination of great communication, ball movement and strong defense.

Their largest lead was 13 and would have been more, but it was hard to slow down Chubb’s Drew Leatherman. He bailed out his team on the offensive end, scoring 13 points and helping them go on a 7-0 run. No worries yet for Charliewang Express, as they maintained a comfortable lead going into halftime, 37-27. JP Kernisan had 14 of those 37 points leading all scorers.

Chubb refused to take a beating and came out super aggressive in the second half, cutting their deficit down to only 3. Charliewang Express started slacking on defense and missed too many free throws. They couldn’t seem to buy a shot, now it was anyone’s game.

Tied with 2:30 minutes to go, Charliewang Express hung on, making two clutch buckets to win it 53-47.

Chubb’s Drew Leatherman finished with 22 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 10 rebounds. Alessandro Trimerehi helped, adding 11 points, 1 steal, 1 block and 5 rebounds.

Charliewang Express’ hot hands were JP Kernisan and Ean Egar. JP was all over the stats with 18 points, 5 assists, 4 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 block. Ean Egar had 16 points, 2 assists and 6 rebounds.
