Final Night Sweep Secures the Fall Title

On a blustery, brisk Tuesday evening at Bert Willis, the last thing anybody expected to see was a ball over the fence. When Dave Covell (3-4, 2R, 5 RBI) roped the first pitch he saw into the trees through a stiff breeze both teams had a look of shock on their face and this semi final game had the look of a slug fest. Daves big swing gave the Hot Behinds a quick 2-0 lead in the first.

The Misfits answered right back with three of their own in the bottom of the first frame. The two squads traded punches for the next few innings, but the Misfits were landing harder and more often.

27 hits for the Misfits- 4 by JT. 3 a piece from Riyan, Tommy, Chris, Michelle and Eric. proved to be too much for the Hot Behinds to handle.

Just when the game looked secure for the Misfits in the 9th, Dave stepped up again and blasted his second bomb of the night, cutting the Misfit lead to 11-7. That would the last run the Hot Behinds would score this season, and with that the Championship Matchup was set. Misfits vs Bada Bing!

In the Finale, undefeated Bada Bing looked to finally take that next step and bring home the belt. It had all the makings of a classic duel between the young upstart team trying to dethrone the veteran, former champs who know what it takes to win a 9 inning pressure packed game.

Playing as the Visitors, the Misfits knew it was of the utmost importance to get something on the board early. That's exactly what happened when CJ (4-5, 3R) and Riyan (3-4, 2RBI) scored in the first. In fact after 2 innings, it was 5-1 Misfits.

As the temperature continued to drop so did the offensive output. After scoreless innings of 3,4,5 the teams traded single runs in the 6th and 7th.

Down 6-2 in the bottom of the 8th, Bada Bing finally woke up and got something going. 6 hits in a row led to 4 runs and new life on the Bada Bing bench. Andrew (4-6, 2 R, 3 RBI) delivered the big blow, driving in a pair in the inning.

Like the true champions they are, the Misfits answered right back in the 9th. When Michelle delivered the line drive up the middle to take the lead, the momentum was squarely in the corner of the Misfits.

They held on to win 8-7 and wrapped up their second title in three seasons, a record unmatched at the Jersey Shore! Congratulations to the Misfits, 2017 Fall Division Champions!
