Misfits Fall Short in their Pursuit of a Dynasty

NEPTUNE CITY, NJ -- Everyone loves an Underdog. That's why the bleachers were packed Tuesday night at Bert Willis. The fans that hung out were treated to the most exciting and entertaining game of the year.

Perennial powerhouses, The Misfits, were the top seed just like everyone expected. It was their opponent, the Cinderella story; Bond St that had people talking. The team dressed in black has been steadily improving from season to season. Moving pieces around until they found the right fit.

The game was an instant classic reminiscent of a heavyweight title bout. The two exchanged jabs in the early innings, feeling one another out. Trading unearned runs, you could tell there was a tightness and nervous energy in the air.

It was the bottom of the 5th when Misfits slugger Nick (3-4, 2R, 2HR, 6RBI) landed the first haymaker, blasting one off the left field fence just over the outstretched glove of Matt, to give the Misfits a 7-5 lead- it looked like the Misfits were going to cruise to another title.

Bond St would not go down. Logan (5-5, 3R) started a rally the very next inning, scoring on a Matt (3-5, R, 4RBI) single. Then Chris (3-4, 3R, 2RBI) hit a two run inside the park homer to give Bond St an 8-7 lead.

The bottom of the 7th was where the tide really turned. JT (3-4, 4R) led the inning off with a triple. Catcher Diana made a great play snagging a pop up for the first out. Then Chris Barlow absolutely roped one to left where Player of the Game Matt made quite possibly the best diving catch we've ever seen at Bert Willis field, JT tagged and scored to give the Misfits the lead, but the catch turned what was at least a sure double and the makings of a big inning, into minimal damage.

Bond St got another clutch double off the bat of Matt in the top of the 9th to tack on some insurance, and they would need it. Because everyone knew who was getting another crack for the Misfits, Nick.

And Nick would deliver again in the bottom of the 9th, blasting a majestic 3 run dinger that nobody would make a play on, cutting it to 14-12.

Winning pitcher Dime Dave kept his composure and induced a pair of pop up outs to close it and cap off the magical season for Bond St.

Congrats to both teams on successful season, See ya in the Fall y'all.
