Men's Divisions Start to Tighten Up

CENTURY FIELD, GARFIELD, NJ -- Arsenal & The Outlaws put on a dazzling offensive firepower showcase in a 9:00am Double Header at Century Field in Garfield on Sunday.

Game 1 belonged to Arsenal, who scored 19 runs including an incredible 11 runs in the Top of the 3rd.  Fastest man in the league Jomar started out the 3rd inning with a leadoff double & the team batted around & got up to Orlando, who crushed a 3 Run Homer to finish the 11 run romp.

Tom Romano got the win behind the mound.  The Arsenal also had 6 walks in the game adding to their solid OBP in game 1.  The Outlaws weren't far behind in this one.  They scored 15 runs.  Batter number 5, Joe, had 3 RBIs & a solo homer in the 3rd inning.  The Outlaws had 26 total hits, but I think where they struggled was with "extra" base hits (4 of their 26 hits).  They just needed a little more to mount a comeback.

Final Score Game 1:
Arsenal 19
Outlaws 15

The Outlaws came out firing in Game 2, scoring 21 total runs including 7 in the top of the 3rd.  The team had 4 total Home Runs courtesy of Matt, Hector, Shawn & AnthonyAndy took the mound in Game 2 & got the win.  He had 2 K's with his unorthodox pitching style (psyching guys out with his double/triple pump).  Team Captain Matt was a beast at the plate going 5 for 6 with 5 RBI's & made a nice catch deep into center field. Joe Molesky made an acrobatic jump rounding 2nd on a ball smashed by Joey Feinstein for the Arsenal which was a scene to see!  Molesky, who is about 6 ft 6, made it to about 6 ft 7 on the jump!  The crowd (or me in this case) had a nice grin to show for it:)).  Speaking of Mr. Feinstein, his better half Nicole needs to pay more attention to the stats than her man in tight baseball pants (COME ON MAN!!!).  There was some emotion in this one when the Homeplate Ump called out Jomar at the plate.  Jomar argued but the ump stood by his call.

With the double-header split, both teams move to 4-6 in the Mike Schmidt Division. We have a strong feeling these 2 teams will be battling all season for the final seed in the division playoffs.

Final Score Game 2:

Outlaws - 21
Arsenal - 11

Division Updates

In other league news, the playoff races are starting to heat up. Each division has multiple teams vying for a spot in the big dance. Here were some key results from this past Sunday:

Tainos (10-2) did their job, doubling up on the Muy Buenos and moving into a virtual tie for 1st place with Waka (9-1) in the Mike Schmidt Division...

L.O.B (9-3) increased their 1st place divisional lead by beating a tough Adrenaline Rush squad in a doubleheader sweep. Adrenaline Rush (3-5) now finds themselves in a tie for 5th place with BigBigWillie's, who had an impressive split vs. the 2nd place 2 or 3 Guys...

The Black Mambas
(6-4) took care of business by defeating the Minotaur in 2 straight games. The Mambas find themselves in the thick of the playoff race in the Rod Carew Division

In a wild doubleheader split at Sylvan Park Field, Team Trenn (5-7) and Leonia (4-6) each came away with a 1-run victory with scores of 13-12 and 16-17...if either of these teams wants to make the playoffs, they'll need a nice little win streak to take form...

In Cliffside Park, Balls Deep (4-8) gave it a go, but they couldn't dismantle the Bad Hombres (8-4), losing a tough DH 15-16 and 6-16...

The Warriors (9-1) and North Bergen Dawgs (10-0) remain at the top of the Dave Winfield Division, as each crushed their opponent in lopsided sweeps, but Saved By the Balls (7-3) kept pace as they swept the Soldiers of Fortune in a 16-15 barnburner and 21-5 demolition...

Good Wood (10-0) swept a competitive Here Come the Runs team 17-11 and 21-12 and the EC Hawks (8-2) doubled up a tough Young Bucs squad 17-16 and 24-7....but Mcswiggans (10-0) also won their doubleheader vs. the Seton Smash, and the Swigs remain tied with Good Wood for 1st Place...

Lot of great battles next week, stay tuned to the ABL website for standings, stats, news and more. Good luck!
