Talulas and Porta Got the Power

Bombs Away at the Big Park

The Jersey Shore regular season wrapped up Tuesday night on a soggy Bert Willis field. While the rain held off, the fireworks show went on. Three balls left the yard this week, surpassing the number of homers we have had total in the first three seasons on field 1.

The first one came off the bat of the Talulas slugger, Dave C. This was a no-doubter, the sound of the squashed clincher echoed through the trees as the ball landed in right center of field 2. Dave (3-3, 2R, 2RBI) grabbed Player of the Game honors and helped his team take a double digit lead with that blast. Speedster Brendan Neary also had himself quite the game going 2-2, scoring twice and driving in 3.

But on this night, winless Porta would not fold like a slice of pizza. Down 11-0 going into the top of the 5th, Porta showed some of the grit and determination they displayed at times this season. They came back with 9 runs over the last three innings including a missile off the bat of Vic Alfieri over the left center fence for the night's second bomb.

Even though it was a tough year for Porta, they definitely have something to build on going into the summer season. They swung the bats great in the second half of this game and Pitcher Joe Lombardi completed an amazing task. 36 2/3 innings pitched, 0 Base on Balls, a Jersey Shore record. Great Job Joe!

Congrats to both teams on very solid first seasons and hope to see you back out on the diamond in a few weeks.
