Porta and Langosta Lounge Play to a Tie

If the first game of the 2017 Jersey Shore Spring Season is any indicator, the George Brett division is going to be highly competitive and entertaining.

Like a couple of fighters trading jabs in the early rounds, both teams - Porta and Langosta Lounge - showed signs of setting up each other for the haymaker but it was the defense that would land the biggest blows.

Pitcher Joe Lombardi and shortstop Kat Cannell of Porta each made several fine defensive plays to thwart any LL rally. Offensively it was Victor Alferi (3-3, R, 2RBI) that provided the punch.

For the crew from the Langosta Lounge, Dan Nann (3-4, 2R) and Evan Bowle (2-3, R, 3RBI) were the key players at the plate.

However, it was in the 5th inning in a tight 6-5 game that Langosta Lounge's first baseman Jamie Queli made the play of the night and earned player of the game honors.  With 2 on and 2 out, Porta's Lefty Pat Mazzola hits an absolute bullet down the line, diving to her left and completely laying out, Queli snagged the would-be double out of the air; ending the Porta rally and ending the inning.

Porta would get two in the top of 7th to take the lead on doubles by Alferi and Arielle Horneck. Langosta clawed back to get one in the bottom to grab the tie.

It was an exciting game that had a postseason atmosphere in the late innings. A sure sign that this is going to be a great spring season 'down the shore.'
