The first game Sunday night was an instant classic.
The Goodfellas paced by Tymel Jackson (24 points, 10 rebounds) and Kevin Johnson (18 points, 5 assists) jumped out to a hot start and held a 10 point lead at the half. Jackson scored 21 of his game high 24 in the first half, including 6 from behind the arc.
This game, however, was a tale of two halves. In the second, the ABB Ballers turned up the heat on D. They smothered Tymel and only allowed him to get two shots off. Robert Cheeks was his steady self and led the Ballers with 19 points and 12 boards. Using their size inside, the Ballers were able to take a late lead and found themselves up 2 with 8 seconds on the clock.
Knowing they had time for one last shot, the Goodfellas went to what worked all night. Johnson penetrated and kicked it out to who else, but Tyrell Jackson. He stroked the game winning 3 from almost 30 feet. Forget playing for the tie, the Goodfellas went for the win and it paid off. It was Jackson's only basket in the second half and it couldn't have come at a better time.
The Goodfellas lead the division (4-0) and will take on the undefeated Ball Don't Lie (3-0) next week in what's sure to be a thriller.
