Dysfunctional 5 loses despite stellar effort by McGoldrick

Last Sunday, Game 1 pitted the 1-0 Goodfellas against the 0-1 Dysfunctional 5. An up-and-down first half had Goodfellas up 26-20 at the buzzer. After a closely contested first half, Goodfellas opened up a sizable early lead behind the hot hand of Ahsan Jamil, who hit three 3’s in the 2nd half to stretch the defense. This led to a lot of easy buckets for the rest of the squad, with Kevin Johnson slicing and dicing to the hole at will. Johnson was both finishing and dishing at the tin, finishing with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Dysfunctional 5 just didn’t have enough firepower in the game, aside from a mammoth effort by Michael McGoldrick. McGoldrick finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds (and had a double double in the 2nd half alone). Dysfunctional 5 would ultimately lose to Goodfellas by a score of 55-39. Goodfellas now sits alone atop the Michael Jordan division at 2-0, while Dysfunctional 5 is stuck in the basement at 0-2. Both teams return to action on Sunday, 1/29.

Game Leaders:

Points: Michael McGoldrick - 23

Rebounds: Michael McGoldrick - 17

Assists: Kevin Johnson - 6

Steals: Brian Rosen - 4
