Hawks battle tough, but Gunrunner hunkers down

JERSEY CITY, NJ -- The Hawks were set to tipoff against Gunrunner to close out opening night of the ABL 2017 Winter League. A battle would ensue.

Gunrunner, led by Captain Bill Buzaid, got out to an early lead as Nadiv Ahsan hit two quick 3’s to give the squad some breathing room. Ramone Webster did his best to shoot the Hawks back into the game with 7 first half points, but Gunrunner would take a 20-13 lead into the half and never look back.

Jean Adam opened the 2nd half with some impressive drives to the rim to try to get the Hawks back in the game, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Hawks began to claw their way back late, but needed to resort to fouling.

Buzaid, who finished the game with 12 points, stepped up and knocked down 4 clutch free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach. Nick DeBlase was a beast on the boards all night and finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Gunrunner (1-0) will take on the former champion Wolfpack (0-0) next.
